“Love Hunger: A Harrowing Journey from Sexual Addiction to True Fulfillment” is easily the most honest autobiography I’ve ever read, and it’s probably one of the most inspiring as well. I literally could not put this book down until I finished it. David Kyle Foster successfully balances being open without being explicit as he recounts for his readers a childhood filled with self-hate and despair, his eventual foray into homosexuality, male prostitution and drug addiction in his early twenties, his semi-successful quest for fame and recognition in Hollywood, and his stint as a cult follower of Guru Maharaj Ji. Foster is a gifted and intelligent writer, able to tell his story in a way that is both humble and enthralling. The turning point in his life is clear and points directly to the relentless love of Christ, the power of the Holy Spirit and the intercessory prayers of others as the catalysts that led to his freedom from sexual bondage, various addictions, anger and unforgiveness. David’s faith and his passion for the Lord is infectious- as gripping as the story of his depravation is, even more so is the story of his redemption and his continuing walk of faith. I think that’s one of the things I loved about this book; David’s life didn’t suddenly become boring, easy or predictable when he gave his life to Jesus- and he’s as honest about that as he is about his past. Neither does his writing style suddenly become dull, cliché or sanctimonious as he describes the story of his new life in Christ. David’s testimony of the transforming power of God’s love and His unlimited grace is powerful and convincing and it will challenge, inspire and encourage you, whatever your own story may be.
